Department Introduced

Student Events
The carnival is held in every March in order to celebrate the school anniversary. Freshmen and sophomores will work together to hold DJLL refreshment stand in the carnival to introduce and promote DJLL. We introduce our department curriculum in public. Besides, some of our students will dress up in YUKATA (Japanese summer kimono) to present traditional Japanese culture and they always successfully catch people’s eyes. They also sell Japanese strawberry DAIFUKU (rice cake stuffed with strawberry and salt-seasoned bean jam) and Japanese OMAMORI (amulet) on site. It has become an important feature of our department stand.(2013、2014年 最佳攤位佈置獎;2015年最佳DM設計獎)
In order to promote a better understanding of DJLL outward and also promote a closer union of our students inward, Japanese Week, a whole-week event, is scheduled in March every year. Our events include book exhibition, speech contest and Japanese night which is a delightful entertainment show designed by our students. This event earns a good reputation widely at the campus.

Graduation Play of 2006 (2006-1021)
The year of 2006 marks the 10th anniversary of our graduation play. In the past, the acting scripts were mostly selected among Japanese literature works or Japanese classic plays. In the year of 2005, our students even put the famous classic work ‘GENJI MONOGATARI’ (The Tale of GENJI) onto the stage. Following our seniors’ great ambition, in the year of 2006, the 10th anniversary of the play, we made a Chinese classic work into a Japanese version and put it onto the stage to celebrate. It was the ‘A Dream in Red Mansions’ (紅樓夢 also as known as ‘The Story of the Stone’). If we take the Japanese graduation play as a wonderful interface for cultural exchange, then by acting a Chinese classic work it could be a meaningful thing in the terms of introducing Chinese classic works to Japanese friends.

That is why we chose ‘A Dream in Red Mansions’ (紅樓夢) to play. Since Redology is as important and famous as those studies on ‘The Tale of GENJI’ in the world, in this sense, ‘A Dream in Red Mansions’ of 2006 is quite competitive with ‘The Tale of GENJI’ of 2005. Because the time limit of the play, we picked up the most significant scenes and arranged them into the play. ‘Confiscating DAGUAN-garden’ (抄檢大觀園) was selected as the last scene because of the meaning it symbolizes—say goodbye to the sweet happiness. It truly matches our feeling because seniors have to say goodbye to sweet college life and each of us will have to pursue a new life.

Producing this play means a tight cooperation of seniors. They have to go through every details of the preparation all together, such as electing the drama, writing the script, casting, making stage properties, discussing and preparing actors’ make-up and costume and even seeking sponsors. It is just like a butterfly, having endured in the cocoon for a long time and finally struggling out to fly.
Japanese Speech Contest
Japanese Speech Contest is hosted by Student Affairs Division every year. It is a good event to stimulate students’ motivation for learning Japanese. The winner of this contest will represent NTU to attend another speech contest, Japanese Speech Contest which is hosted by Ministry of Education every year. That is a nation-wide competition. In addition to these two contests, Japan Asia Airways (JAA) also holds Japanese speech contest every year. This is also a good challenge for our students.
